Winter Symposium 2026 (Virtual)

This event took place on Zoom on January 24, 2026.

Our first speaker was Gus Kaeding, who is the current Director of Applications at the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation and the former U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team's Director of Performance Analytics. In advance of the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Gus gave us a great behind-the-scenes view of how the team uses analytics to optimize performance of our Olympians!

Our second speakers were David Bruno & Ramin A. Mohajer from The Alliance for Decision Education. They taught us how we can make better, more informed, evidence-based decisions in everything that we do! Decision-making in sports, from fantasy drafts to professional team management, is filled with uncertainty. Our brains often fall into predictable thinking traps. In this session, we explored different forms of biases (such as outcome bias, confirmation bias, availability bias) and to understand how they influence our decisions. And we talked a lot about football!

The Q&A portions of the presentations were particularly fun. Please click below to watch the replay of this event.
